OUR MATERIALS

Jewelry only feels elevated when the materials do. At Alvaura, we choose materials not just for how they look at first glance, but for how they wear, feel, and hold their presence over time.

Our pieces are built with 14k gold vermeil, 925 sterling silver, lab-grown gemstones, and moissanite selected for refined color, brightness, clean finish, and a more modern jewelry standard. The goal is simple: jewelry that looks polished, feels intentional, and fits naturally into everyday life.

14k Gold Vermeil

Our gold pieces are crafted in 14k gold vermeil, using a solid 925 sterling silver base finished with a thick layer of real 14k gold.

We use 2.5 microns of gold plating, which is substantially thicker than standard flash plating. By comparison, standard flash plating can be as thin as 0.02 microns, which is why it can wear through, dull, or fade more quickly over time.

That extra thickness gives our pieces a richer gold finish, a more substantial feel, and a more refined look in real life. It also helps the jewelry maintain its appearance better with proper care, rather than looking overly thin or surface-level from the start.

The result is a material standard that feels noticeably more elevated than typical plated fashion jewelry, while remaining more approachable than solid gold.

Why Gold Vermeil Feels Different

Gold vermeil is not simply about adding a gold tone to the surface. It is about using better materials from the foundation up, so the jewelry looks more polished, feels more substantial, and holds its presence more convincingly when worn.

First, the 925 sterling silver base gives the piece a finer underlying structure than lower-grade plated alternatives. Second, the thicker layer of real 14k gold creates a fuller, richer finish with more visual depth. Together, those details help the jewelry feel cleaner, more premium, and less like disposable fashion jewelry.

For us, that balance matters. We want our pieces to feel refined and wearable — elevated enough to read like real jewelry, but still practical enough to live in more often.

That is the advantage of 14k gold vermeil jewelry when it is done well: it offers a more luxurious finish, a better material foundation, and a more convincing fine-jewelry look without moving into solid-gold pricing.

Our Protective Finish

To help extend wear, our vermeil pieces go through a 2-hour silica protection process that adds an extra barrier over the surface.

Think of it as an invisible shield that helps reduce direct exposure to sweat, moisture, and daily friction — the kinds of everyday contact that gradually wear down plated jewelry.

No plated finish lasts forever, and we do not pretend otherwise. But when combined with our thicker vermeil standard, this added step helps our gold vermeil jewelry stay brighter, cleaner, and better-looking for longer with normal wear and proper care.

Lab-Grown Gemstones

We use lab-grown gemstones chosen for saturated color, clarity, and refined visual depth. For us, the stone is never an afterthought — it is central to how the jewelry reads on the hand.

That is why our lab-grown gemstone jewelry is designed to feel luminous, polished, and intentional, rather than overly traditional or overly precious.

Moissanite

We also use moissanite throughout our collection — in our stacking rings, and as accent stones in many of our gemstone designs.

We use D–E–F color moissanite, including for our accent stones. That means a brighter, cleaner white appearance that helps the entire piece look more crisp, polished, and elevated.

We choose moissanite for its exceptional brightness, strong light return, and vivid fire. It is known for showing even more fire than diamond, which gives the jewelry a more luminous, light-catching finish.

For us, it offers a particularly strong balance of beauty and value. Some lower-cost white stones can look flat or lose crispness over time. White sapphire tends to appear calmer and less fiery. Lab diamond can be beautiful, but it is not always the most efficient way to achieve this level of brightness and sparkle.

Moissanite allows us to create a cleaner, brighter, more radiant look at a more reasonable price — without compromising the overall finish of the piece.

In stacking rings, moissanite keeps the look bright, refined, and easy to layer. In gemstone rings, it adds contrast, fire, and extra polish around the center stone. We do not use accent stones as filler — we use them to sharpen the entire piece.

Made for Modern Wear

We build around a few core principles:

  • materials that feel refined in person, not just online
  • better plating standards than typical fashion jewelry
  • sterling silver foundations for a more premium feel
  • colored stones selected for presence, clarity, and polish
  • strong light return and refined brilliance
  • modern jewelry that feels distinctive, but still easy to wear often

That balance defines Alvaura: modern jewelry with color, structure, and presence — designed to feel special without feeling difficult to wear.

Why Our Jewelry Looks So Elevated

Beautiful jewelry is rarely the result of just one element. It comes from the way each material works together.

Our lab-grown gemstones bring depth, color, and presence. Our D–E–F color moissanite adds brightness, fire, and a cleaner, more polished finish. Our 14k gold vermeil and 925 sterling silver give each piece a richer finish, a more substantial foundation, and a more elevated overall feel. And our added protective finish helps preserve that look over time.

That is what gives Alvaura its signature feel: jewelry that looks luminous, refined, and high-end — with color, sparkle, and structure working together in a way that feels modern, intentional, and beautifully put together.

A Note on Wear Over Time

Like all vermeil jewelry, the gold finish can naturally show wear over time, especially with repeated exposure to water, sweat, lotion, perfume, and friction.
